The carefully laid SEO strategies of thousands of tech websites were shredded by Google and Nestle today, as the Android developer and the chocolate company formed an unlikely partnership to alter the name of the next version of Android from ‘Trick Lime Pie’ to ‘KitKat’.

When it was revealed, wonder became … more amazement. Sensations then stayed as wonder. Everybody is still surprised. It’s incredible. It’s also totally ludicrous, as Google has now turned its world-beating mobile OS and hidden advert shipment mechanism into one substantial, extremely evident advertisement for an undoubtedly quite good chocolate bar.

Apparently no money altered hands, although both will be anticipating some significant returns thanks to the substantial quantity of advertising and marketing cash that will be blown on advertising the name modification, the competitors, the future phone updates and even more.

But did the internet offer the shock Android name modification one huge chunky thumbs up, or did the commenters of the world hold up some a little smaller fingers in response?

Class action

Opinion hasn’t been mixed on the matter. Essentially everybody is aghast. Google may as well have revealed that the ‘S’ version of Android will be known as Sarin. Even on AdWeek, a site dedicated to the marketing world, commenters were baffled. Totally broken

Some people discovered it funny, though. In the minefield of YouTube remarks, where no opinion is left unhad no issue how wrong or awkward, individual Michael Atia revealed he enjoyed it and entirely got the references in KitKat’s ridiculing video, stating: “LOL … this is like the Apple keynote when the English guy (John Ive) is talking, similar music too! ” to which Eric Santos reacted with the classic “Thank you, Captain Obvious.”
